Dog Chewing

Dogs love to chew on things, it is a fact of life. However, this does not mean that your dog cannot be taught what is acceptable dog chewing behavior and was isn't.

In fact there are a few real easy steps you can take to stop your dog chewing problem in its tracks. That way you can save your shoes and other valuable items you don't want chewed up.

The first thing you will want to come to terms with is the fact that dog chewing is done out of instinct and is not done because your dog is trying to be mean. This occurs in pretty much all breeds.

Instead of trying to deny your dog the opportunity to chew all together, why not give him some alternatives? Chew toys are a great choice because they allow you to give your dog something he can chew on to his heart's content.

If that does not work, you may need to put up baby gates or some how block your dog from going into rooms where he has been causing dog chewing damage. You don't have to block him off from these areas all the time, just when you are not home to supervise.

There are also some anti-chewing solutions you may want to try. One of them is applied to your dog's teeth and when he starts to chew it releases a really bitter taste into his mouth teaching him that chewing is not as fun as he remembered.

Nylabones are another great choice. They are safe for your dog to chew on and are filled with meat like flavors that will keep your dog chewing on them for hours at a time.

If you are still at a loss as to what to do about your dog's chew problem I recommend you check out Dog Train Academy. It is all online and can be taken at your own pace. This is a great alternative to formal dog training classes and costs a fraction of the price.
