Your dog
loves to be social. It is a natural tendency that in their excitement
they want to have some face to face contact with people they love. This
is what causes dog jumping as your dog wants to look you or other visitors in the face.
Unfortunately, this causes kids to be knocked down
and other adults to be quite annoyed, frightened or even hurt. For this
reason, it is important to stop dog jumping as soon as possible.
Thankfully you you can stop dog jumping without
too much stress or hassle. All you need to do is follow some basic
guidelines and have some patience.
First of all you need to pick a command that tells
your dog to stop jumping and you need to be consistent in using the
exact same command each time. If you change it up it will only confuse
your dog and nothing will be taught.
When your puppy jumps up on you, get down on your
knees so you can be down at his level. This will let him know that he
does not need to jump to get your attention. After a while you wont
even need to get down on your knees any more, you will just be able to
bend over to show him the attention he wants.
If this technique doesn't work you could always
try making jumping up an unpleasant experience. To do this you take his
front paws after he has jumped up on you and you make him walk
backwards a few steps, put his paws down and loudly state your stop
jumping command. Dogs hate it when you make them walk backwards so this
should get the message across quickly.
There are many techniques you can try to stop dog
jumping. No matter which option you choose, make sure to stay
consistent. It will not work the first time or maybe even the second or
third time. It must be done over and over again to truly get results.
If you need any further guidance I highly recommend you join Dog Train Academy. They are experts in these sorts of issues. It is completely online and costs less than ten bucks a month.
